% of US County Populations in Low Access Zones
Welcome to the Food Myap!
This map displays the % of each county's population that is considered to have low access to nutritious foods.
- Hover over areas to see data pop up on the Data tab, and click a county to see an updated pie chart with % population living in low access areas broken down by race.
- Check the nutrition bar at the bottom to see information on the percent of the population living in a low access location. The white bar represents when 33% of the county population lives in a low access area: the point at which a location officially qualifies as a food desert.
- Click Shop Mode to place a marker on the map, and see the impact it can make on a low access community. The corresponding colors, data, and the nutrition bar at the bottom will adjust to each marker so you can see the impact in real time!
- You can toggle the markers on and off and delete them when you're done.
- Find data from a specific location by entering the address into the search location bar.
You can use this tool to figure out where to plan a supermarket, farmer's market, or just to play around with the data!
The data for this map was taken from the US Census Bureau.
